Lemon & Honey Oven Roasted Turkey Wings Recipe


This Lemon and Honey Turkey wings recipe was inspired by my recent trip to Nigeria. Fried turkey wings is a staple meal in many Nigeria households. Eating turkey is not just for the festivities, like thanksgiving and Christmas. Eating turkey can also be very casual, as in a snack or as a pre-meal.

Although this recipe does not call for frying at all, because I want to lean towards being healthier. I will still tell you about  the different ways we Nigerians eat turkey (other than in festivities).

Lemon and honey oven roasted turkey wings

 

Chopped turkey wings, marinated in simple salt and pepper (hot peppers) and deep-fried is usually eaten with a variety of ‘goodies’. Sun-dried tapioca, ice-cold soaked Garri, roasted plantains, coleslaw and bread; to name a few.

When I got back into Florence, the first thing I picked up from my grocery store was turkey wings. I got down to making this lemon and honey wings because I couldn’t stop thinking about the fried turkey and tapioca my mum had made for me whilst I was in Nigeria.

I marinated and roasted the turkey wings. Now I’m sharing the recipe with you. Enjoy. xo

Instructions
  1. Chop the turkey wing into two and place in a baking dish and glaze with the honey.
  2. Grate the lemon zest unto the wings. Slice the lemon and squeeze the juice unto the wings.
  3. Add all the other seasonings and using your hands, rub them into the wings.
  4. Cover the baking dish with cling film (plastic wrap) and seat in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  5. Pre-heat oven to 180 C degrees. Take out the wings from the refrigerator, remove the plastic wrap and bake in the oven for 30 minutes.
  6. After 30 minutes, turn the wings to the other side, use a spoon to scoop some of the juices in the baking dish and spread it all over the wings.
  7. Continue roasting for another 30 minutes. The wings should now have a nice colour on top. Serve hot.
